Happy Friday after Thanksgiving, everyone. Hope you had a great holiday, and I hope you’re enjoying some time off.
I’m kicking off the holiday season, as I do every year, by playing “Christmas in Prison” from John Prine’s 1973 album, Sweet Relief.
It was Christmas in prison
And the food was real good
We had turkey and pistols

And now the madness begins.
Spot on, mate, that John Prine tune is my absolute harbinger of the tinsel apocalypse every year. “Turkey and pistols carved out of wood” gets me chuckling through the first mince pie every time, doesn’t it? Bloody genius how he turns the bleak into brilliant. Here’s to surviving the seasonal madness with a punk rock snarl and a stiff drink. Cheers for the nudge, always a highlight.
